Fashion dolls have been around since the French started using them to display fashions in the 1700’s. But the modern fashion doll for the adult collector got started with Barbie but recently with the release of the Gene Marshall doll in 1995. Ashton Drake Galleries was the Gene Marshall Doll maker for about ten years and now is made by another modern doll maker.
The Asians have really sparked interest in the modern fashion doll after 2000 with the articulated ball jointed dolls. Some of the best dolls coming from China and Korea and popularized by the Japanese Dollfie. The Japanese are big collectors of mini sized dolls with realistic or anime features.
